The Beach

We went to the beach today as we had to do a few things over at our beach cottage.  Gosh it was beautiful.  I really didn't want to leave.

We have a very, very big week this week with Pip's Exhibition at Black & Spiro this Thursday night along with the installation and unveiling of our Christmas Windows and also the launch of our Summer/Christmas vignette over at the online store.  Fingers crossed everything happens like it should.  I am slightly, actually no, I am very anxious!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the store this Thursday night.  Thank you for the wonderful response we've had. Whenever we have events at Black & Spiro I always worry that nobody will turn up.  The girls think I should be more worried about where we are going to put everyone.  Oh well, I should just stop worrying I suppose!!

I think by Friday I will be ready to head over to the beach again and have a few days away with my boys...that will be so nice.

Happy Friday!

What a week!  It's been madness to say the least.  I thought you might like to see this little snippet of our Christmas/Summer Vignette which will go live over at the online store next Thursday.

Something very exciting and new for this season is we have people in the vignette including some very well-known Brisbane fashionistas, my children and their friend Charlotte and even I make a little appearance...eeeekk!!

We also have a beautiful live Christmas tree which is filled to the brim with colourful decorations, some of which we have hand-made ourselves.

This vignette is definitely my favourite one yet.  I can't wait to launch it next Thursday!!

Hope you have a great weekend.

Link of the Day!

I may be a bit quiet here on the blog over the next week or so.  When my schedule gets completely crazy it's always the blog that tends to get put on hold.

However, it's not all bad news because in just over one week's time we will be launching our Summer/Christmas Vignette over at the online store.  I am very excited about this vignette because we have gone outside to shoot this season's collection at a beautiful heritage listed seaside cottage.  There will be lots of beautiful and exciting things which will make up 3 vignette pages this season so make sure you keep checking here for updates on the launch day/time.

Another very exciting thing we are gearing up for at Black & Spiro is the debut exhibition of paintings by Pip Boydell and of course the unveiling of our 2011 Black & Spiro Christmas windows which we will be doing on that same night - Thursday 3rd November, 2011.

We can't wait to have, what I hope will be, a fun night with our clients, customers and friends.

So there's lots to do and lots to finalize.

Hope to be back here soon!!
PS - I would like to thank Jen from Interiors Addict for the lovley interview she did with me on her blog last week.  If you are at all interested in reading it click HERE..xx

The clip is really beautiful and I can wear my hair in a half pony tail or full ponytail with the clip and its comfortable to wear (see my photos below). For today's giveaway - Cathy Thomas, from Lilla Rose, will be giving away a Flexi XL Diamond Center with Dangles hair clip. This hair clip will fit just about any texture and hair type. When a winner is chosen, if you have thin hair or a shorter length, you can contact Cathy about getting a smaller size of the hair clip (check out the size chart).
"Brief description of the patented Lilla Rose Flexi-8 Clip and the benefits it offers:The Lilla Rose hair accessories are beautifully designed jewelry that works really well in natural hair. One of my favorite accessories is the Flexi 8 hair clip. The Flexi-8 Hair Clip is made from music wire and a pre-designed pattern of beads. One of the amazing features of the Flexi-8 Clip is the pin; the pin is cast in a light durable metal which is incredible strong and smooth. The pin is attached to the Flexi 8 so you don’t lose it. Its cast with three notches which prevents the pin from sliding out once it is secured in the hair. Not only does the hair not slip out it isn’t compromised by sharp or jagged edges that pierce the hair and scalp and cause undue pain and breakage. The Flexi 8 Clip is amazingly flexible in contrast to most items of its kind and surprisingly durable. All sizes of the Flex-8 clip can be worn in natural hair. I’ve worn my clips now for over three years and have found them to be not only beautiful but very comfortable and absolutely no headaches at the end of the day. Anyone that tries one absolutely loves them." - Cathy Thomas

Interview with Nekiwa Smith

Q: What is your hair story?  What kind of hair styles have you rocked, before embracing your natural hair?
A: I started getting relaxers at age 5, so all I knew of my hair was the thin, straightened relaxed hair version. I wore every popular and trendy style in the book, from wraps, roller sets, extensions, braids, cornrows, buns, ponytails, you name it!

Q: When and why did you decide to start wearing your hair naturally?
A: I originally tried to go natural in 2003 but with a lack of knowledge on how to properly take of my hair, I went back to relaxing. In May 2009, I decided to transition again, remembering how healthy my hair was in its natural state. I knew and wanted my hair to regain its strength and health and knew I had to go natural again to get it.

Q: Did you have any big fears about going back to your natural texture?
A:Oh yes! There is a lack of support in our community regarding natural hair, especially during earlier years. Now, more and more people are becoming aware of the benefits and are starting to support and embrace natural hair and its culture. I have family members and associates that did not fully agree with my hair decision initially and aggressively tried to pressure me into relaxing. Some even stated that natural hair isn't "professional". My having my own business, I was definitely afraid of how potential clients might perceive.

Q: What are three products you can't live without for nurturing/styling your hair?
A: Most of the products I use, I make with ingredients in my pantry. I have to have Shea Butter, Aloe Vera Gel and EVOO(Extra Virgin Olive Oil). I use all of these in many of my recipes. I can't live without them.

Q: What would you say to someone who's thinking about embracing their natural hair, but scared about being rejected in various parts of their lives?
A: It took my husband a while to accept and view my natural hair as beautiful. Speaking from experience, making the decision to go natural is revolutionary. I consider this to be a revolutionary move being that the majority of society accepts other styles more so than natural hair. If you are considering going natural, know that you can do it, regardless of the rejections you might receive. Know that the health of your hair is more important that what any one could ever say, think or perceive of you. With natural hair, you will see your hair healthier than it has ever been, grow to long lengths and you will feel confident and empowered. Once your loved ones see your new-found confidence in what you're doing, it will be contagious and they will began to see your hair as beautiful as well.

Q: How can we keep up with you and your journey i.e. blog, twitter, facebook, fotki, tumblr, personal or professional website? (Optional)
A:  Find me at: Beauty As Designed, Twitter & Fotki
